To help taxpayers affected by the Coronavirus pandemic, the IRS has announced that it is extending various filing and payment deadlines to July 15.
INCOME TAX RETURNS: This includes individuals, corporations, trusts and estates and nonprofits. This extension includes time to pay without interest or penalties.
ESTIMATED PAYMENTS: Estimated payments due on April 15 are also extended and includes an extension to pay any estimated payments due on April 15 to July 15.
CONTRIBUTION TO IRA: You also now have an extension of time to contribute to your IRA. The normal deadline is on April 15 or your extended due date. The IRS has announced that you can contribute to your IRA as late as July 15.
STATE OF ILLINOIS RETURNS: Unfortunately, at the time of this writing, the state of Illinois has not announced any extensions of filing deadlines. If you want to extend an Illinois return, you will need to file an extension before the April 15 deadline.
Remember that if you are getting a refund, you will want to file sooner to get the money sooner. In addition, if you want to extend, you may wind up preparing your return during the summer. If you have additional questions, please call us.
